The National Competition for Loss & Damage to Tropical Biodiversity is held from June 1 to July 31, 2021
The National Competition for Loss & Damage to Tropical Biodiversity is held from June 1 to July 31, 2021, by the Disaster Study Center of IPB University in collaboration with the PIAREA Institute, Department of Geophysics and Meteorology of IPB University, and so on. This activity collaborates with and gets support from various parties both at the national and international levels, including Ministries/Agencies, Research Institutes, Universities, to the Community. This competition consists of 5 (five) categories, namely photography, infographics, oration videos, business ideas, and jingles. This competition can be participated by junior high and high school students as well as students with an age range of 13-30 years. This competition was attended by 238 registrants from the photography competition category, 345 registrants from the infographic competition category, 72 registrants from the business idea competition category, 21 registrants from the jingle competition category, 59 applicants from the video oration competition category. Based on the theme, LOSS & DAMAGE IN TROPICAL BIODIVERSITY, where the concept of “loss and damage” refers to the category of loss and damage that cannot be avoided (unavoidable) even though mitigation and adaptation measures have been taken. Loss and damage not only refers to environmental damage but also refers to social and economic damage caused by extreme climatic events. Through this competition, it is hoped that the younger generation will raise awareness of the importance of climate risk management and take initiatives to take action to reduce the potential impacts of losses and damages due to climate change.
